2cruz Posted July 22, 2005 #1 Share Posted July 22, 2005 What's the best car rental company to rent from on the islands? Do any of these companies have a cancellation policy in case ship doesn't make it into port?
Bucky3 Posted July 22, 2005 #2 Share Posted July 22, 2005 We have never had to give a credit card number for reserving a car. They just give you a confirmation number. Check around for the best prices. Driving in Hawaii is very easy - with the exception of the Honolulu/Waikiki areas where it is conjested and parking is a joke! but once out of the area Oahu is a great place to explore as are all other islands. If we have needed to cancel we always call so as not to be labeled a "no show" and so that that car can be made available to someone else. Enjoy!! 2cruz Posted July 22, 2005 Author #3 Share Posted July 22, 2005 Was the reservation made online or phone? Did they have shuttles at all the piers for transfer to the rental agencies?

Bucky3 Posted July 23, 2005 #7 Share Posted July 23, 2005 There are several places in Waikiki/Honolulu other than the airport. As far as I know they all provide shuttle service but that's why I like to call the local number and talk to someone on site to be sure, and I like to have the numbers handy when we reach port so in case the shuttle is not there I can call and check. We've had pretty good luck and have done this many times. You can get whatever information you need by using the internet - including the local number. Have an idea of what prices are available which may depend upon time of year, events on the island you are visiting, etc. If you search these boards, you'll find lots of information. Good Luck!
