kwbrad Posted February 28, 2014 #1 Share Posted February 28, 2014 If you have purchased the replenish package in Galveston before leaving port - were you charged tax? I seem to remember several years ago when DH bought a soda package he was charged tax but wouldn't have been if he had waited until we sailed. However, could be remembering wrong, and that was 2007 anyway. Sent using the Cruise Critic forums app
Cindy Posted February 28, 2014 #2 Share Posted February 28, 2014 I bought mine on-line for our cruise in April, and I paid $20/person/day with no tax.

Thanks Cindy, I know I can get it online for the $140 without tax, and am thinking about doing that. But we have some onboard credit, and I could wait until we board to buy it so I end up using the onboard credit. But if I am going to end up paying tax on it, why spend an extra $10 on tax, you know? kwbrad Posted March 1, 2014 Author #5 Share Posted March 1, 2014 Or wait a few hours after leaving port; once in international waters you won't be charged tax. Yeah thought of that too, but we get onboard early (usually on by 1130) and won't be in international waters until after dinner, I have a feeling I will want a soda or two and a virgin lava flow or two by then :D
CruisinDawn Posted March 1, 2014 #6 Share Posted March 1, 2014 If your question was any port but Galveston I would say you will not be charged tax on the packages because they indeed don't start inputting them until after the ship leaves. They have to hand write your info since they do not have a register at the table you sign up at. My recent Liberty cruise I got the Premium Alcohol Package aka PP cause that is what your sticker says and that is what you have to do :D and was not charged any additional taxes. BUT I know Galveston has funny rules like they can't sell any alcohol on the ship until they get out of port that was not purchased in Texas. It limits what drinks you can get at bars before you leave port. If you don't purchase a package from a table and just go to the bar for a drink in any port you do pay taxes on all drinks until you leave. If you want to use OBC and they're going to charge tax, why don't you just pay by the drink on Sunday and then get the card first thing Monday for $120 instead of $140?:)
Galveston Cruiser Posted March 1, 2014 #8 Share Posted March 1, 2014 Don't know about soda package, but have ordered wine package on boarding and was not charged sales tax. So what would be the difference?
