Tot! Posted March 3, 2014 #1 Share Posted March 3, 2014 It seems this port isn't frequently visited, but I'd like your thoughts on what's interesting in this city. Beppu is most famous for its onsens (hot springs), but what about things to do for people who most definitely aren't onsen people? :D:D Thanks very much in advance! Rare Kristal Blade Posted March 3, 2014 #2 Share Posted March 3, 2014 Hi Tot! I will be visiting Beppu in 6 months so will keep an eye on this thread. So far I have found out that the town is walkable, but as you say , the "onsens" are the big thing there. You can catch a bus from the station to the Eight Hells, they are 20 mins away. Also there is Mount Tsurumi, there is a cable car to the top for nice views. And a zoo with wild monkeys in a forest habitat. Hope that helps a bit, but maybe previous visitors can tell us a bit more :) All the best, KB
Tot! Posted March 22, 2014 Author #3 Share Posted March 22, 2014 Bumping this thread, but it seems that Beppu is a off-the-beaten-track itinerary! Has anybody been here? Recommendations or thoughts? Thanks very much!

kompera Posted May 22, 2014 #5 Share Posted May 22, 2014 I lived in Beppu for a year, and it really is a small town. Besides hot springs, you can check out some near-by cities like Oita or Yufuin. Check out this page to give you some ideas: http://www.japan-guide.com/e/e4700.html
Rare Kristal Blade Posted May 25, 2014 #6 Share Posted May 25, 2014 Thank you Kompera, Good to get some useful info at last! How easy would it be to get to Yufuin? Is it a bus or train ride? It looks like a pleasant town to visit.
