How Thin Are The Walls?

How thin are the walls on these ships? I've read a few horror stories, and I'm hoping I don't have to worry about being disturbed by screaming kids next door (or screaming would-be parents trying to create them  ). We're sailing out on the Triumph August 27.

I've also been reading a lot of advice to avoid cabins underneath the casino, disco, dining rooms, teen lounge, engine room... How much of a potential problem are these areas? I'm from New York, so I can deal with a reasonable amount of sound while I sleep, but how bad do these areas get? We booked a guarantee oceanview, so we're not sure where we'll be yet...

We can use earplugs while we're sleeping of course, but we don't want to have our waking hours in the cabin disrupted to an unreasonable degree, particularly during evening wind-down time.

Im pretty much pooped out by 10pm after the last show or even after Midnight after the Rated R comedy show, after that theres nothing that can wake me up.

The walls are thin but I dont recall hearing any loud sounds from either side.

I have always heard that the walls were thin, but have never encountered it to be a problem... then again, I might be in the cabin for 6 hours total a day, 4-5 of those sleeping, and I make sure to drink plenty of "sleeping fluid" at night :D I've just never been disturbed by neighbors...

The most annoying noise problem for me is the "hall noise" from inconsiderate hall mates and the slamming of doors. Since the doors are on automatic closers they do close hard....and left to close on their own they will slam. That to me is a much bigger problem than the walls being "thin". I rarely notice "noise" beside me...but the noise in the hall can be VERY irritataing  I do not fault anyone for having a good time and staying out late. But I also make a point of not disturbing them when we get up early.

I truly do not think that the walls will be a problem for you.

If your neighbors are being particularly "vocal", yes, you can hear things - you can alway hear your neighbor's toilet flush (as they can yours) and you can hear people in the hallway if they are being loud or running. Other than that, it should be pretty quiet. If you have a room above or below a public venue then, yes, you could hear a lot of "bass" noise (drums, low guitars, banging, clapping, etc.)

Last year on the Holiday there was just one night when I heard a lot of noise coming from a cabin next to ours...... the TV was very loud and it sounded like some kids having a party.... didn't last too long and I typically sleep like a log.

As someone else has mentioned there is usually more of a problem with people letting their doors (room and balcony) slam than anything else. I would say that I don't find it as noisy as a crowded hotel, but then again it all depends on who is in the cabin next door, or how loud some passengers are in the hallways. Last month on the Victory we were on the Panorama deck and head very little noise.

I wouldn't worry as much about the people next to you as much as public places on the ship attached to your room. Last August, on the Paradise, the wall furthest from the door was attached to the photo gallery hallway, and that was the only"noise" we got.

we booked OV GTY on our first cruise, and ended up under the GALLEY. I posted here, MANY people were contributing to my panic, saying how bad it was for them. DH and I are not super sound sleepers, but never once did we have a problem. in fact, we so enjoyed our location, we're considering booking the same general area again on our next cruise.

as far as the actual walls being "thin", we didn't hear a thing from the cabins on either side of us.
