Scuba diving in Grand Cayman on NCL/insurance?

Does anyone know what provider the cruise ship uses for their scuba itinerary? I am interested in researching safety issues/etc. for scuba providers there to ensure we are diving with a safe operation. Also I found out my travel insurance does not cover scuba - any tips?

Don't know about NCL, but RCI uses Red Sail Sports. By insurance, are you inquiring about travel or medical? If medical, join D.A.N. ( Divers Alert Network) The insurance is inexpensive and covers emergency evac and recompression if needed. I think you can even get trip cancellation with it also. just like A.E., don't leave home without it.

We dove with Red Sail in April and had an enjoyable dive. They seem to have a very competent, commercial dive operation. had good safety briefing before both dives and made sure everyone had a dive buddy. The dives themselves were not extreme by any means. Since then, we have found out that they have aquired Tortuga Divers that operate out of the east end of GC at Morritts. We dove with Tortuga many times and really liked their operation, but they took a severe hit because of Ivan as did Morritts. We are going to be doing a land vacation in GC in October and I'll be sure to post the outcome.

I second the recommendation for D.A.N. insurance. You can get travel insurance with it as well.

How about instead of trying to find out who your cruise line uses as their dive operator, pick your own operator.

For Grand Cayman, I have used http://www.neptunesdivers.com and give them my recommendation for cruise divers. Personal service, not a cattle boat, guide lead dives (or not if you want), and willing to work with your schedule.

Gotta have that DAN master insurance - we don't dive without it.

For GC - we went with Neptune's divers and had a blast. Link to review and pix below.

Have a great time!

  • 2 weeks later...

Believe it or not I contacted my travel insurance company to discuss cancellation of the policy because of exclusion (exclusion was not indicated anywhere in any of the material prior to purchase). They agreed to cover the scuba.

I have booked with a smaller dive op based on the advice. Thanks!
