cadmille Posted July 29, 2005 #1 Share Posted July 29, 2005 It seems that I read on the board that you could charge up to $1500.00 dollars a day up to a maximum of $5000.00 a cruise to your on board account, is this true? how do they pay this to you in cash, chips or marker. I know it seems like a silly questions but I'm trying to find out if I can get a cash advance against my NCL Mastercard with out having to pay any fees and still get the 4% on my card. Am I going about this the hard way, we just received our cards (TWO days after our final payment was due) and I'm trying to find as many ways as possible to use it where I would have used a debt card, check or heavens forbid cash.

If you want you can get a cash advance on any card but you pay the fee and lose the points.
johnql Posted July 30, 2005 #5 Share Posted July 30, 2005 Buying chips in the casino is NOT treated as a cash advance. It is treated by NCL just like any other shipboard charge. It will show up as a line item on your itemized onboard account, which can then be charged to your credit card at the end of the cruise.

goldmom Posted July 30, 2005 #8 Share Posted July 30, 2005 If you charge the chips to your room to get the points for your credit and aren't planning to use them in the casino, wouldn't the casino get annoyed that you are basically using them as a ATM, or would they not even care? Also, wouldn't you be putting yourself in a situation where you'd be walking off the ship with an awful lot of cash in your pocket if you just keep cashing in chips? Your could walk off with a lot of cash. The intent is not to just feed your account. If too many do that I expect we will see the fee. I am sure thay don't like the idea of paying the CC company for your cash. They don't care about being an ATM it saves them from dragging all the bags of cash off the ship that the other passengers lost

I am sure thay don't like the idea of paying the CC company for your cash This is the exact reason I was given on Princess when I asked them to explain their 3% fee. As with most free services, if it gets abused, NCL will start charging a fee, too. Of course, we have no way of judging what constitutes abuse. Only NCL knows how many people are buying chips and not playing in the casino at all. For the time being, it's a great convenience.
