Night Life in Rio

We will be arriving in Rio on Nov 20th, 2014 and will only have 1 night there. We would like to experience some of the night life and are looking for some suggestions . We are from San

Francisco. so nothing would shock us. Maybe an off beat local dining spot and or some night clubs. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciates:)

Go to Lapa to listen to live samba and maybe try dancing some samba gafieira with the locals. You might like the club Carioca da Gema.

And if you're feeling more adventurous, you could go to a samba school rehearsal at their home "quadra". November 20 seems to be a Thursday and Thursdays are the nights the Beija Flor samba school holds their rehearsals. The quadra is at Rua Pracinha Wallace Paes Leme in Nilopolis. Go by taxi and ask the driver to return for you.

Maybe you can check listings in online editions of "O Globo" and other newspapers. Note that many shows may have an announced start of 11 p.m., but the real start will be after midnight. If you could be more specific as to what you want to see, posters could give better input. Where are you staying? Your hotel's concierge desk may help, but they may steer you to typical places for tourists. Some nightclubs/discos will cater to those very young and/or single males looking for ladies for the evening.

 

It may be a bit early to look for specific shows featuring headliners.

Thank you for your responses. Unfortunately we will only have one night. We will boarding a cruise ship in the afternoon and leave the following evening around 6PM so we only have the 1 night opportunity.
