VicMackey Posted May 2, 2014 #1 Share Posted May 2, 2014 Hi, I've searched this forum and google but have come up empty. I did the White Pass RR previously in Skagway (Which has train cars with a wheelchair lift) and while it was fine, I would prefer to have been able to also do Carcross and the Yukon. I know Chilkoot Charters is very popular but they indicated that their vehicles are not accessible. The person I am asking about is in a wheelchair without the mobility to transfer onto a bus and would need a lift equipped vehicle. Does anyone know of a tour that goes to Carcross or the Yukon that is wheelchair accessible? Thanks in advance.
Peery5 Posted May 5, 2014 #2 Share Posted May 5, 2014 I don't know of any agency with a lift equipped vehicle but it's been a few years since we were in Alaska. We rented a car in Skagway and drove into the Yukon (across the Canadian border) to Carcross. Nice drive, very beautiful scenery. We prefer renting vehicles over chartering because we can stop when we want or need to to take photographs, view the majestic mountains, see the brown bears or whatever we choose. Might not be what you are looking for or necessarily need but I thought I'd mention it. I am disabled and use a mobility scooter. My scooter is a travel scooter so it's lightweight and easily fits in the trunk of a rental car.
