@Porthole Posted May 7, 2014 #1 Share Posted May 7, 2014 (edited) Hello, My girlfriend and I are both 21 and are going from Venice to Genoa in September on Ventura (N419a). We are perfectly happy socialising with the older generations, however I am just wondering if there will be at least some couples/individuals our own age. My question is when you went on your fly cruise what was the mix? Thanks in advance for your replies. richleeds Posted May 7, 2014 #2 Share Posted May 7, 2014 Good question. We did our first cruise years ago and we were mid 20's. We did stand out at the time and we were constantly getting asked if we were dancers in the show! Times have changed now and the average age has dropped considerably, especially on the American lines and Caribbean itineraries, not so much P&O and the med but I'm sure you will find people of your age, you can always ask to be seated with an similar age range for dinner. pudd Posted May 7, 2014 #3 Share Posted May 7, 2014 Hi there. Got back last week from Genoa. There was a mix of ages onboard but was mostly older. You will have to wait and see the mix on your trip. There were only a few kids onboard as it was just after the Easter holidays. Make sure you have the late dining time then there is plenty of time for a few drinks before dinner then some dancing after. I always think if there are more older people onboard you can race them to the sun loungers quicker!
ParCan Posted May 7, 2014 #4 Share Posted May 7, 2014 Hi. We are younger cruisers but a long way off 21. We joined a Trans Atlantic cruise in Barbados. Jan 13. There were a large number of very senior people on board and very few younger people. Those that joined with us were Much Younger all round, Lots of under 30's but most people were 40 + A Week Later the Trans Atlantic pax got off and a new bunch of fly cruisers got on. The average age dropped by about 20 years. For the last week most people were under 60. There was a real mix of all age groups from Teenagers through 20's 30's 40's and 50's. This rather perplexed us for a while I have to say. I can only guess that some older people dislike Flying or chose not to fly. There will almost certainly be people of all ages on your cruise. You have nothing to worry about.....
themanwithahat Posted May 8, 2014 #5 Share Posted May 8, 2014 Well, there were a few people of your age but I'm 50 and I felt like one of the more youthful passengers :) If you want to be in with lots of early 20s it probably isn't the ideal liner (I don't know, one of the US lines might be better) I would say that one of the things I have noticed on both the cruises I've been on so far is how sociable people are and things like age and social class don't seem to matter much. Staff did say that the age grouping did partly depend on the time of year ; in the school holidays they thought there were more younger people and families, which makes sense I suppose. Lolra Posted May 8, 2014 #7 Share Posted May 8, 2014 I was on the same cruise as pudd and am 26, there weren't many other passengers of my age, in fact we thought that the age group of the cruise was the oldest of any we've been on so far, but the time of year that we travelled definitely had an impact on that. In school holiday time etc there would be a much younger crowd. We had still a fab time and just because there weren't many people of our age group to mix with, didn't mean that there weren't people on board willing to socialise with us and there were still plenty of people up late in bars etc plus like others have said there is plenty to do around the ship.
