Best Places for Car Rental

I recently reserved cars from Alamo in Hilo, Kona and Maui. They ended up being the cheapest and all locations having shuttles. If you search this forum for "rental cars" you will find tons more information.

We have reservations with enterpirse and avis, they honored all our coupons and we rented over the phone not on the internet. THey are picking us up at the pier. Actually the prices were very competitive and we know that they do not nickel and dime you for scratches etc. Avis does not want you on the unpaved roads! We feel it was worth it to sign up for the Wizard # so our car will be waiting. Who ever you choose be sure to sign up for their program and don't give your credit card # that way is the itinerary changes you will not be charged a penalty. If you call direct they do not ask for cc.

I hope the coupons work out for you, but be very careful with this. Read the back of the coupons. If it says, "48 contiguous states and Canada" (or something like that), it doesn't matter what they told you on the phone (or online, for those that book online). When you get to the actual rental office, they will refer you to the terms and say, "No. We don't honor those here." And the fact is that they don't have to because nearly every coupon we've had (and we've had many--including those in the Hawaii Entertainment book) have had that little clause in the back that also includes that "not all rental locations honor this coupon" (again, or words to that affect).

I really do hope you can use your coupons, but be prepared for them to not honor them. Even if you tell them that the 1-800 reservations agent said you could use them, a phone call to the corporate reservations or customer service won't help. Each location can accept them or not, as they choose.

This applies especially to Avis.

(Sorry, I know--what a wet blanket!)
