Gettysburg Posted June 12, 2014 #1 Share Posted June 12, 2014 (edited) Hi Looking at Holland America Ryndam from Dover on 23 Aug to Norway. I am single parent with 2 eight year olds. Just wondering if this ship and cruise line will be suitable as It us not a big ship and does not seem as geared up for kids as some of the other lines. Being school summer hols in uk I would have thought there would be plenty of children on board, is there a way of finding out. They are offering kids for £1 if they are 3rd or 4 th sharing a cabin which I thought would encourage families. I know that there will always be the passengers who don't want to see kids on board, but this in the UK school hols so I was hoping there would be plenty on board Can anyone tell me what it's going to be like Thanks Edited June 12, 2014 by Gettysburg
c-cruise Posted June 12, 2014 #2 Share Posted June 12, 2014 We've taken our kids on Holland America many times and they do a great job with the kids club (ClubHAL). Generally maybe 50-100 kids onboard at the most when we have sailed during school breaks. I haven't done a Europe cruise so hopefully somebody else will chime in, but I wouldn't expect a ton of kids. Ryndam is one of their oldest ships and definitely small by today's standards. I've not been on the Ryndam, but have sailed on the Veendam which is basically a twin. There is not a ton for kids onboard beyond Club HAL. There is a nice covered pool area, ping pong, shuffle board, etc. There is an outdoor kids area called the oasis, but it's usually for teens only. Sounds like a great itinerary! I'm sure you and the kids will enjoy it regardless of how many other kids are onboard.
rebeccalouiseagain Posted June 12, 2014 #3 Share Posted June 12, 2014 Holland American doesn't attract as many kids as other lines but in summer there will be some kids. Not as many as on a Western or Eastern Med cruise, which is more popular with younger families. Go- have fun. It will be fine.:)
