Victoria - changing money

Attitude will get you everything or nothing in a foreign country - and Victoria is in a foreign country. Since you seem anxious about the exchange, it might be best to get CAD at your bank before you go, or hit an ATM at the port.

Actually I have traveled internationally many times. But for more than a few hours. I am not "anxious" but don't want to end up with money that will sit useless for who knows how long.

Looks like I will stick to places in this century and use plastic.

Whatever small amount of CDN coin that you have collected could be left for, your room stewards. I'm sure that there are opportunities for, them to use it at the cruise terminals in Victoria, or,Vancouver.

Please don't do that. I remember my room steward asking me if I wanted $20 cdn dollars that he had because he had no use for it. For the small amount of time that they are there, it is not practical.

I live in Victoria and am also a banker.

There is a lot of US counterfeit cash floating around and many merchants are not accepting US cash.

ATMs are your best option.

Thank you for reporting that. I had no idea.

That's odd. I have seen any number of cruise staff in the terminals using the wifi; and there would be free time in the CDN ports; but I defer to your personal experience ,

No kidding - the crew goes shopping when they are in Vancouver! During Alaska season they are in Canadian ports every week. You should see them come back onboard with all their booty.:)
