Need a recommendation for a hotel in Venice. Our usual is booked.

We really like the Hotel Accademia. It's on a small canal with a very nice garden. It is rather small and tends to fill up quickly. We first read about it in Foldor's where it was highly recommended. Not fancy, but very charming.

Agree wholeheartedly! Great location and having a drink or breakfast on the veranda overlooking the grand canal and the Rialto bridge is priceless.

Try Hotel Canal Grande. Great little boutique hotel on the grand canal across from the train station. A walkable distance as well.

 

We stayed there in 2011 before our cruise on Spirit.

Another vote for Al Ponte Antico. A little worn but lots of atmosphere and a great location. Very friendly staff. They made sure our water taxi was on time departure day and sent us to 2 terrific small restaurants off the beaten track. Only 9 rooms, so it's possible they will be full as well. Good luck.

Another possibility for a small hotel would be Hotel San Sebastiano Garden http://www.hotelsansebastianogarden.com/en/services/. We stayed there after a cruise when air travel was stopped due to the Iceland volcano and quite liked it.

Best bet is to go on TripAdvisor to find what you would like, with lots of in-depth reviews.

We can recommend Pensione La Calcina, be sure to pay a bit extra for a room on the water for spectacular sunsets.

We stayed at the Hilton prior to a recent cruise (used points) and would not stay there again. Location is distant from most interesting things about Venice - they did have a free shuttle but really, why? The view was great (had Canal view) but otherwise not recommended.

Years ago we had a reservation at the Accademia and had to cancel and had a difficult time getting our refund since (at that time) they didn't take credit card deposits. It continues to get great reviews, so too bad they are full up. And guessing they now take plastic.

Another I would NOT recommend is the Bauer Palladio on Giudecca. I quite liked the location, it was good to be able to get away from the hustle and bustle, and the shuttle service was fine, but the hotel was not. Room just about OK but service was fairly dire, as was the breakfast. Others from our group stayed at the main Bauer across the water and were favourably impressed.

I would just like to say we always stay at the Hilton Molino Stucky, it is one of our favourite hotels anywhere! It just goes to prove we are all different and like different things! In fact we stay there on Sunday before our cruise on Spirit and then again after the cruise, we have also booked for September for a few days for our birthday celebrations.

We are again staying at Bauer L'Hotel on Sunday and would recommend it. Lovely building and great location. Perhaps we can compare notes with Daneite.

The Boscolo Vanezia is our favorite. Elegant hotel that was a palace years ago. Beautiful grounds. Free water taxi to San Marco and Murano, provided to guests.
