faresaver vs compass card in vancouver

Recommended Posts

hi, i will be in vancouver for 4 days in august. I understand that the compass card has been rolled out this year.

For a tourist, which would be a better choice? Is the value of the compass card refundable? Where can the refund be processed?

As for the faresaver tickets, can the 10 tickets be used over the period of 4 days?

Thanks

yes, the faresaver tickets can be used over a period of days.

used those tickets for trip from airport to city centre and did not have to pay the extra airport $5 surcharge.

we were in Vancouver earlier this month and used faresaver tickets.

not sure if the compass tickets are out yet.

As PD says, the schedule for Compass has continued to creep forward with little sign of any firm date on the horizon. Until they're available to the generic traveling public, you won't have the option of using Compass - it's still in a limited group 'test mode' now.

Faresavers can be used forever (until the Compass rollout at least, at which point there will be some facility to load their value onto your Compass account) - we had a couple left over from before the last price change and they scanned at the machines just fine without even asking us to top up the value to the new price (which had been my expectation).

In other words if you end up with leftover Faresavers, keep 'em for next time - worst case Compass finally rolls out before your next trip, you can still use the Faresaver value to add to your new Compass card!
