bconley351 Posted July 26, 2014 #1 Share Posted July 26, 2014 We are heading to Portsmouth for our 3rd pre-cruise stay. The last two times we had lovely dinners at the Spice Island Inn. I have recently seen some dreadful reviews and was wondering if it had changed ownership or gone through some other transformation. I'm hoping there is a CC member out there familiar with Portsmouth that could give me some insight. In fact the last time we were in Portsmouth we ate there 2 nights. We are staying at the HI Express at Gunwharf Quay and will also have the restaurants there to choose from.
gosport11 Posted July 27, 2014 #2 Share Posted July 27, 2014 we tend to use brassiere blanc in Gunwharf, when we eat there, but there are more restaurants than you can shake a stick at,as for the Spice Island never eaten there but a change off chef can alter the food, also the chain pubs tend to get a set menu to use,if you can look at Southsea, as there are loads of independent restaurants there rather than chains :)
bconley351 Posted July 27, 2014 Author #3 Share Posted July 27, 2014 I'm wondering if the change to a chain was after 2011. Oh well, I had been looking forward to their lamb shanks but will probably have to find somewhere else to eat. We'll be at the Historic Shipyard most of our time in Portsmouth, but can venture out some for dinner.

bconley351 Posted July 27, 2014 Author #5 Share Posted July 27, 2014 I've already bought our tickets for the dockyard. Not unhappy that I qualified for a senior ticket this trip out. Looking forward to seeing the completed museum. Last time out we got to the DDay Museum, but will probably spend more time at the dockyard this time. Only 16 days until we leave, 18 until we see our dear friends, and 19 until we board the Ruby.
