roomgypsy Posted May 19, 2004 #1 Share Posted May 19, 2004 Infinity booked September 26 to Hawaii. I have several excursions booked, but this one seems to have me stumped. When in Hilo, we have the volcano trip. Any suggestions? .. 45014 Posted May 19, 2004 #2 Share Posted May 19, 2004 Is it a helicopter trip?
CaribbeanBound Posted May 19, 2004 #3 Share Posted May 19, 2004 Go to the volcano, drive volcano crater road, check out the viewing station, walk through Thurston Lava Tube, check out the Sulpher Banks.
roomgypsy Posted May 19, 2004 Author #4 Share Posted May 19, 2004 Hi again... the trip in Hilo is not a helicopter one, its the excursion celebrity has offered @$81pp. I believe transportation will be a van-type vehicle. We are doing heli in Kauai so really wasnt interested in duplicating similar experience, tho I realize landscape will differ. Caribbean, it sounds good, but it much like what we are doing in above Hilo, so was looking for something different in Kona. DDawson Posted May 19, 2004 #5 Share Posted May 19, 2004 I'm not sure about the time frame and how long you will be in port, but we have done the Fair Winds snorkle trip many times and have always enjoyed ourselves very much. The morning trip encludes a light breakfast and then they serve lunch (hamburgers)during the snorkle time. You can book this on your own. ardie Posted May 20, 2004 #6 Share Posted May 20, 2004 Catch a taxi, and do the Fairwinds. It will be the highlight of your trip.. We have gone at least 10 times, and we will do it again in Feb. 200 5.
ardie Posted May 20, 2004 #7 Share Posted May 20, 2004 This is a trip for Kona, not Hilo.
Wor Lad Posted May 20, 2004 #8 Share Posted May 20, 2004 Hi RoomGypsy, Consider the walking tour around Kailua if you're into history. Any of the boat trips to Kealakekua Bay are interesting. If you want to spice it up go on a Zodiac (e.g. http://www.captainzodiac.com/). Last October Ironman week there was a Monk Seal playing with the swimmers. Try Ross's on Palani Drive. Our Canadian friends thing it's a good place to stock up on clothes. Here's a good site for choices - http://www.kaysvacation.com/links.html Dave S.
