sillysarah456 Posted August 2, 2014 #1 Share Posted August 2, 2014 Hello! My first question here on CC! And first time cruiser! My husband and I are sailing on the Carnival Breeze in January. We have booked the parasailing and beach excursion which is supposedly over by 10:15am and leaves us at 7 mile beach (or the port?). That leaves us with a lot of day left! We are huge nature nerds and thought the Mastic Trail tour with the National Land Trust sounds absolutely amazing! Question 1: Does this sound like too much for the day? Google says the trail is 30-40 minutes from the beach/Georgetown, so get to the trail around 11, 3 hour hike, back to the port by 3. Sound too ambitious? Question 2: What is the best way to get to the trail? Are the buses super slow? If we took a taxi to the trail-head how would be get them to come pick us up again? Especially if we don't have a phone (although I assume trail guide would have one we could maybe use). How much for a taxi from Georgetown to Boddentown area? I think I will ask all of these questions of the trail tour coordinator, but thought I'd see if anyone had done anything similar. Thanks
drew sailbum Posted August 3, 2014 #2 Share Posted August 3, 2014 That's biting off too much. You can do the Mastic Trail (don't even think of going without a local guide) or you can do the beach and parasailing. Not realistic to do both. The National Trust does offer guided hikes along the Mastic trail. It can get pretty soupy wet towards the south end of the trail at certain times of the year. You would need a rental car. I'm not sure how the Trust recommends getting back to pick up your car.
sillysarah456 Posted August 3, 2014 Author #3 Share Posted August 3, 2014 Thanks! That was the answer I thought I'd get! I think we'll just do the Mastic Trail and definitely schedule with the National trust.
