AVIS in Juneau tried to rip me off

Well, I finally found the time to call the manager of that location, who mainly works at the Juneau airport AVIS (she manages both).

She told me the following:

- They have had "two other recent problems" with that downtown location, and that she will be "taking serious action" about it now.

- The employee was required to stay until 6:30, and in fact was required to stay after 6:30 if I happened to catch him at the desk and wanted to check my car back in. He was violating a strict rule regarding leaving early, and violating yet another rule by arguing with me about it.

- All employees there are required to call the manager when there is a problem like mine (basically if a customer is unhappy about something), and they didn't do that, again violating the rules.

- My car should never have been given away, especially given that I called twice beforehand making sure that they wouldn't.

- The bait-and-switch with the price was a huge no-no and should never have happened. She agreed that it looked very shady.

- Employees are not supposed to force-upgrade customers at that location.

She was nice and very apologetic, and kept repeating that this was the final straw with the downtown location. She said she was getting in her car right now to drive down there and make a big deal about this and the other two recent incidents.

So for those of you who felt that this experience was "positive" or "standard", I hope this opens your eyes a bit.

Thanks for the update pokerpro5, good on you. I figured it was a case of an employee screwing up.

Also, thanks for sticking to your guns on this issue. In no way did I believe you didn't enjoy your visit to Alaska, you were simply pointing out a problem that should be addressed. You did future travelers (auto renters) and Avis a favor.
