Mosquitoes?

Was just reading in a river cruise book about how bad the mosquitoes are in the afternoon on the Danube. Said you can't keep your windows/doors open then. Anyone had this issue? Is this just certain times of the year? This is not a big deal for me...we live in the woods in the mountains! ha ha Just wondering.....

We could not open our French balcony on the Danube July 2013. Lots of mosquitoes and small flying insects because of record floods on June. You never know and just have to be prepared. This was especially true at night because the insects were attracted to the lights on the cabin.

We kept our French Balcony doors closed at night due to lighting but had no problems during the day on our Budapest to Amsterdam Avalon trip last month. They did warn us one evening (I forget where) to be extra diligent.
