gillhalfpint Posted August 16, 2014 #2 Share Posted August 16, 2014 No, we are on Spirit for Fire and Ice, the first time on her, in 10 days. Nearly there!!! Only good reports and I loved Majesty, Dream and Island Escape, so sure our cruise on her, and yours, will be fantastic.

holiday ahoy Posted August 19, 2014 #6 Share Posted August 19, 2014 Good post Gill. What with that and the poor weather over Scotland and Norway, it should make for a very interesting couple of weeks!! Got our supply of Kwells now, so no stopping us.... decjoe Posted August 20, 2014 #12 Share Posted August 20, 2014 Hi Essowner, yes we have prebooked cabin on deck 1. Did the same cruise last year on Spirit and had a fabulous time! Yes the ship is the oldest in the fleet, but it has had a recent mini make over, (it was used as a floating hotel for the Winter Olympics) so should looking its best now. The crew, in our experience are what makes the ship what it is, nothing being too much trouble for them! Yes the ship does have a vibration, (as does the sister ship celebration) but it does not cause any issues, in fact you will not take any notice of it after a short while. Have you booked any trips yet? Algeria is an experience! The Spirit was the largest cruise ship to have visited Algiers last year and we were met dockside by the Minister for Tourism, such was the importance to them of the visit. We were escorted everywhere, but had no issues, in fact quite the opposite, people wanted to talk to us, especially the children/teenagers who were keen to try out their English! You have to book with Thomson for Algeria trips, due to visa requirements but most other destinations can be done yourselves. We are counting down the days and looking forward to the rest! Well for the first three days rest is on the agenda! Sent from my iPad using Forums

The return journey through the city was interesting though, despite no stops. The Algerian government clearly needs to get its tourism act together - not Thomson fault. decjoe Posted August 20, 2014 #14 Share Posted August 20, 2014 Hi wee countryman, we're you on the bus that nearly got stuck under the road bridge? As we were! Sent from my iPad using Forums
WeeCountyMan Posted August 21, 2014 #15 Share Posted August 21, 2014 Hi wee countryman, we're you on the bus that nearly got stuck under the road bridge? As we were! Sent from my iPad using Forums No, we were spared that drama, thankfully. I did notice a delay in the traffic with police in attendance - your coach ? decjoe Posted August 21, 2014 #16 Share Posted August 21, 2014 Yes! The escorts went under the bridge and the bus followed! Part way under the driver slammed on the brakes to prevent the air conditioning unit being ripped of the roof! Very interesting backing out of the bridge and using alternative route, no harm done. essowner Posted August 21, 2014 Author #17 Share Posted August 21, 2014 Hi decjoe thanks for the info. Didn't know that about Algeria, we will do an excursion there definitely, most of the places I've never been to. Not booked any trips, will do it when on board ship but hopefully will be able to do some on our own. I'm sure we will like the Spirit, have been on Majesty and liked that. decjoe Posted August 22, 2014 #18 Share Posted August 22, 2014 One other thing worth mentioning, you will require worldwide travel insurance for Algeria, European will not cover it. Sent from my iPad using Forums
essowner Posted August 23, 2014 Author #19 Share Posted August 23, 2014 Thanks, I've come across that, some that I 've looked at cover it as Europe and some didnt. Is there plenty of deck space on Spirit for sunbeds? With first two days being at sea iwondered if there was plenty of space. Is the main area for sunbeds where the pool is? decjoe Posted August 23, 2014 #20 Share Posted August 23, 2014 Hi Essowner in reply to your question concerning sunbeds. We didn't find a problem finding a sunbed during sea days. If you don't mind being away from the pool there are lots of beds on all decks, just don't turn up at 11am and expect a choice!
