gsb Posted August 14, 2005 #1 Share Posted August 14, 2005 I know there are tours available (scavi), but can you go down below on your own once you are inside the Vatican? When we were there in 2001 I don't think we paid to get in anywhere(the SIstine Chapel was closed for repairs), and I know we didn't pay to bo down below where the popes, etc. are buried. Any info is appreciated. We are going 9-14--I think you can get reservations 30 days out? Thanks, Gary Posted this on Europe board earlier

clcrab Posted August 14, 2005 #3 Share Posted August 14, 2005 once you pay - you are within the walls and can go below where the tombs are and in the chapel. Plus we also went in to St Peters. We just got back yesterday and it was a great trip. Helpful hint - if you are not on a tour and you do not want to wait in line - - go to the front of the line and across the street there are several tour guides that will take you in and if you are there early enough - you can get in before the crowd. We had a group of 10 and the total cost was 150 euros
