Zihuatanejo question - Mexican Riviera

Has anyone had any experience with the Las Gatas beach area in Zih?

I remember seeing a post about a restaurant on the beach called Franco's. It had bright red umbrellas set up which you could use, and the food and drink were supposed to be very good.

Would appreciate any information, good or bad.

We took the water taxi ($3pp round trip) to Playa Las Gatas. As we got off the taxi a young boy latched onto us and took us to his uncle's restaurant. I don't recall the name- there are MANY places to choose from. We paid $10 for the use of their chairs, umbrella, snorkel gear and restrooms. They were very attentive and also watched our stuff when we went in the water. We ordered Pina Coladas that were huge!! They carved a whole pineapple and garnished it with lemons and oranges- fantastic! (I think it was $8, but worth it just for the crazy pictures we took)

I have an attractive, Spanish speaking daughter who was able to get us a banana boat ride for next to nothing (as she says, boys are the same everywhere;) )- I'm not sure what the going rate is, but it was great fun. That's her in the picture enjoying her pina colada! I hope you can see it. I forgot to resize.

I love Zihua- I think it is my all-time favorite port. Be sure to leave time for some shopping before you get on the tender back to the ship. Also remember to hang on to your water taxi receipt or you will have to pay again.

This year the Packers will need all the help they can get!! I'm not too worried about missing any playoff games while we're cruising:(

However, I will be in Vegas next week and will buy some chances on the Packers to win...ya just never know!! (casinos like dreamers like me:) )

Have fun in Mexico--

Karen,

I read about a place on Gatas called Owen Lee's Beach Club. It is located at the very end of the beach, and sounds promising.

One more thing, I apologize for asking, but my wife insists that I ask if the restaurants on Playa Las Gatas presented any problems with Montezuma's revenge?

Good luck while in Vegas, the future book on the Packers should have pretty good odds. Shop around and try some of the local casinos, where in general, both the odds and the food are better than on the strip.

There is a beach club- we went by it on our banana boat ride- I'm not sure how you get there. Try www.zihuataejo.net- Zihua Rob has a lot of info and also message board. I am planning a land vacation there and have been using that site alot.

No major "toilet issues" on this trip and we eat wherever and whatever. I do stick with bottled water- but most places have ice machines with purified water. I always take tums and immodium just in case. Usuallly I get some "disturbances" from eating greasy food and drinking too much- nothing caused by the actual food or its preparation!

Another good resouce for your cruise is the book "Mexican Beaches for Dummies" I use mine so much it is worn out.

A Vegas question-

I was booked at Terrible's (3rd time there) but they called and asked if we would go to the Stratoshere for the same rate so I took it. I've stayed at TI and Harrah's on the Strip- what do you think of the Strat? I'm only paying $37/night so I'm not expecting Wynns!!

Thanks!

Thanks for your quick reply.

The Stratosphere is O.K. The food up on top can be quite expensive, but it has a fantastic view.

You will be centrally located, between the downtown casinos and those to the south, on the strip. You might visit the Texas Station, the Palms, the Goldcoast or the Rio. they are all fairly close, and provide decent payoffs on their slots.

The Palms is off-strip, but generates considerable celebrity visits, mostly from the sports world. The Goldcoast is right across the street.

While there, visit Wynns new place, it is really something.

When you check-in, ask for any discount coupon books they may have.

Hit them hard, but leave some for us.

Ed
