Fees/Taxes on NCL

I have only been on two cruises and I was doing some research on Western Caribbean Cruise out of New Orleans because they interested my girlfriend. I was wondering if anyone knew why NCL fees and taxes are really high compared to others that leave that port. For those fees and the price I was quoted I could almost bring another person along.

For 2 people

NCL Sun was 397.38

RCI Grandeur of the Seas was $26.10

Carnival Conquest was $72.84

I am not that educated into what these fees are for and was wondering if anyone knew why it so high.

Thanks in advance.

normally taxes are listed seperately. Is this from the NCL website or through a TA's website?

from the NCL website

VOYAGE FARE DBL 704.00 704.00 1,408.00

NON-COMM FARE 140.00 140.00 280.00

INSURANCE 89.00 89.00 178.00

GOVERNMENT TAX 58.69 58.69 117.38

Guest Total 991.69 991.69 1,983

The non-comm fare is what used to be called Port taxes and fees now different euphanism same thing....if you add the non-comm and government taxes you get the amount listed above.

this is from a TA's website

The only number that means anything is the bottom line. How much for each cruise in total. How they get there is not important. How your TA decides to display it is their business.

If NCL is $1983 and RCL $2655 it is up to you to decide if the price/cruise is right for you

Another factor is that the Sun goes to 4 ports of call while CCL and Royal only goes to 3. This will cause a higher fee schedule for NCL. As the other poster stated it all boils down to the final $$ amount. I am going on the Sun because it goes to 4 places instead of spending an extra day sailing.
