MrsMoose2001 Posted August 19, 2005 #1 Share Posted August 19, 2005 Sephora was started in 1993 as a French perfume chain. French luxury conglomerate Louis Vuitton Moet Hennessy (LVMH) acquired Sephora in 1997. LVMH also owns Givenchy, Kenzo, Dom Perignon, Moet & Chandon, Guerlain, Hard Candy, Urban Decay, and Celine, among other exclusive brands. LVMH has expanded Sephora from less than 60 stores, based only in France, to include over 393 stores in Europe. In addition to its burgeoning U.S. business, Sephora operates in Asia with seven stores in Japan.
MrsMoose2001 Posted August 19, 2005 Author #2 Share Posted August 19, 2005 Sephora, the San Francisco-based cosmetics chain owned by DFS Group, opened its first U.S. store July 15 in New York's Soho. Pia Getty, the daughter of DFS shareholder Robert Miller and wife of Christopher Getty, has been enlisted as the chain's spokesperson and will attend store openings. Getty has been described in the beauty press as a blonde bombshell. Sephora officials are less effusive, saying she is a young active mother, the typical Sephora customer. Sephora's first Bay Area store will likely be at One Stockton Street where lease negotiations have been ongoing for several months. Brokers close to that deal say a lease is imminent. scarletine Posted August 19, 2005 #3 Share Posted August 19, 2005 Opened it's first U.S. store on July 15th of what year? Because I've been going to the Sephora store in Las Vegas for at least three years, and one was opened up at the mall by my house in Houston about a year and a half ago. It's been around longer than just a month here in the states...
