TravelnAl Posted August 20, 2005 #1 Share Posted August 20, 2005 We have A504 pre-reserved for a westbound Panama Canal cruise in 4/07. This is a portside minisuite bumpout. Is this the best side to be on? or doesn't it matter? Thanks
Druke I Posted August 20, 2005 #2 Share Posted August 20, 2005 Hard to say with the Panama Canal which is best side. Ships go through on one-way traffic plan, with two lanes, and it is luck of the draw which lane you might be in. Military would call the traffic pattern a defile system. Most of us are usually out on deck, and cross over to the other side often, to catch scenery, views of ships in parallel locks, mules (electric engines) pulling the ship, etc. Beware the sun - white ship on the water, reflected tropical sun = easy to burn. Use lots of sunscreen and other protection.
firsttimecruisin Posted August 20, 2005 #3 Share Posted August 20, 2005 Hi, I see your post states that you prereserved a cabin for 2007. We are planning to go to Alaska on the Island or the Coral in May 2007. How do you prereserve a cabin? Do you need to go through a TA and place the normal deposit amount? Thanks for the info. We have only been on one prior cruise with Celebrity to the Carribean which was wonderful. Kathy
KAJOKG Posted August 20, 2005 #4 Share Posted August 20, 2005 We have A504 pre-reserved for a westbound Panama Canal cruise in 4/07. This is a portside minisuite bumpout. Is this the best side to be on? or doesn't it matter? Thanks Side really doesn't matter. We had A504 on the Coral and A503 on the island...these cabins are across from each other. We did not notice the difference, nor did we feel we missed anything on either cruise. You will love your cabin. The balcony is small, but you have a plexiglass railing all the way around to one side, so the view (aft) is great. And there is no open deck above you. Balcony is 3/4 covered. We really enjoyed this cabin.
TravelnAl Posted August 20, 2005 Author #5 Share Posted August 20, 2005 Firsttimecruisin, My TA has a hold on it until 8/23. If I want it, at that point I will nedd to put down a deposit.
firsttimecruisin Posted August 20, 2005 #6 Share Posted August 20, 2005 Thanks, I was unaware that you could reserve something that far in advance. I'll have to find a TA in my area and do the same. Hope you have a great cruise!
TravelnAl Posted August 20, 2005 Author #7 Share Posted August 20, 2005 Did the Alaska Cruise/Tour on the Island this past June. Anchorage to Prudhoe Bay by rail and bus and then the cruise from Whittier to Vancouver. Highly recommend it if you have the time (2 weeks). I can say we touched the Arctic Ocean. See this thread: http://boards.cruisecritic.com/showthread.php?t=218442 These folks were in our group.
