evelynborntoshop Posted August 21, 2005 #1 Share Posted August 21, 2005 We had a wonderful 4 days post cruise in Istanbul. Adnan Duvenci (e-mail: turkishguide@superonline.com) a licensed guide provided us with a great 4 days of sightseeing. He is knowledgeable, speaks excellent English, personable, dependable, responsive and flexible. He provided us with American references and phone numbers which we checked. His references gave him outstanding marks. We agree. He also helped us retrieve a digital camera that we left in a private van that we took to the airport. He contacted the driver, picked up the camera from him and mailed it to us. We also recommend the Sari Konak hotel (www.sarikonak.com) in the Old Section, 5-10 minutes walk from the Blue Mosque and many other major sights. It is run by a family who treat you like guests in their home. We had a deluxe room which was very clean and nicely decorated, roomy bathroom. They serve a great breakfast, home made preserves, great yogurt and special bread. There's a wonderful rooftop terrace where you can have cocktails, see the Bosphorus and the Blue Mosque lit in the evening.
cruisin'cats Posted September 16, 2005 #2 Share Posted September 16, 2005 Thanks for the suggestions. We're going on the Nautica 5-17-06 and looking into heading over a day earlier if possible to IST. I will keep your information in my file just in case. Any other suggestions? PurpleCow Posted September 16, 2005 #3 Share Posted September 16, 2005 Add my Kudos for Adnan. In addition to everything Evelyn said, Adnan was very helpful in the Bazaar, never letting me buy junk or pay too much for what I did purchase. He was invaluable in restaurants, explaining every dish and giving me sufficient warning about the Turkish coffee. He even helped me get the best shots with my camera. He was just terrific.
