buckeye_123 Posted November 15, 2014 #1 Share Posted November 15, 2014 Is it safe to walk to the gardens? Is there a lot of traffic? Do you have to pass through sketchy areas? We are going with our 2 year old and would be walking with her on my husband's back. Thanks. Sent from my iPhone using Forums

Traffic on the main road (Bay Street), not so much once you make the left at the Fort onto Chippinngham Road going towards the Zoo. Very public area, Chippingham is on a slight incline. Not sketchy, but you do pass a residential area (a single block on the right).
092306 Posted November 15, 2014 #3 Share Posted November 15, 2014 We just visited the zoo and took the #10 bus for 1.25 each person. You get the bus just a short walk from the pier. I think walking it would be a bit lengthy, but if you're up for it, all seemed fine to me. Didn't appear to pass any particularly sketchy areas on the route we travelled. This was our 2nd visit to the zoo with our son. We went once at 2.5 years old and this last time at 4 and he enjoyed it. Don't miss the flamingo show and the lorry feeding. Those were the highlights. buckeye_123 Posted November 16, 2014 Author #4 Share Posted November 16, 2014 Thanks all, are there side walks the entire walk? Sent from my iPhone using Forums
Cafabi Posted November 17, 2014 #5 Share Posted November 17, 2014 I highly recommend taking the bus, or "jitney," then walking the block or so to the gardens. It is fun and will save you precious time in port. The walk is doable, but I would not recommend it at all. I don't remember the presence or lack of sidewalks, but even the sidewalks downtown were intermittent/in poor repair in many places.
Showtune Posted November 17, 2014 #6 Share Posted November 17, 2014 We walked it with our 2 year old in the Ergo, it was fine. Trafficy for a few blocks until you get out of down town. Sidewalks 95% of the way. We stopped for lunch at the Fish Fry area before heading up to the Zoo/ Gardens. Took a taxi back, which the zoo was quite happy to call for us.
