stacymills99 Posted December 22, 2014 #1 Share Posted December 22, 2014 We are staying across the street from the convention center at the Hampton Inn before our cruise. I was wondering where the best place to get a case of water near the hotel would be. Last year we ended up walking a couple of miles. Also, is it possible to walk to port from here? I know you can get in via Julia street, but is it possible to get in the other way around?
jgmpuma Posted December 23, 2014 #2 Share Posted December 23, 2014 There is a Rouse's Supermarket at 701 Baronne Street, about eight blocks from your hotel, with good selection and good prices. Closer by, there is a convenience store at the corner of Convention Center Boulevard and Julia Street. Less choice and higher prices. You can walk to the terminal, if you don't mind carrying all your stuff with you. To get to the Erato Street terminal (Carnival), walk down Convention Center Blvd. and take a right on Julia Street and ride the elevator or escalator up to the Riverwalk mall. Cross the mall and you will be at a covered walkway that leads to a set of stairs down to the terminal. The Julia Street terminal (non-Carnival) is at the foot of Julia Street. Both of these routes are very easy to follow. Try a dry run ahead of time to judge whether it is worth doing to save about a $20 cab fare.

This year (3 weeks ago) those walking were held up on the street for about 30 minutes in the weather for a train and then the backlog of debarking passengers. The cops wouldn't let any of them through until they cleared it out. Take a cab.

JIMDSB2 Posted January 2, 2015 #6 Share Posted January 2, 2015 I believe the Hampton Inn Convention Center has a free shuttle to the Port.
