walkerstoo Posted August 25, 2005 #1 Share Posted August 25, 2005 Searching for a cruise line, ship that is casual and recreational.......no real need for formal nights. Any suggestions appreciated:)
jdrblue Posted August 25, 2005 #2 Share Posted August 25, 2005 For us the itinerary and dates are most important but if you want casual NCL comes to mind. This is from their web site: Attire Wear what you want. Dress according to your mood. It is your vacation. “Resort casual” attire is as dressy as you’ll ever have to get for dinner. But if it’s elegance you’re dreaming of, we invite you to indulge. Many of our restaurants offer formal options. If you prefer more casual dress, that’s fine, too. How you dress is up to you. We did a Hawaii cruise on the Norwegian Star in '03 which is now sailing Alaska. We had a great time and their "Freestyle Cruising" was a nice change from more formal cruises. MrsMoose2001 Posted August 25, 2005 #3 Share Posted August 25, 2005 I'm going on Radisson next week to Alaska, and it's all Country Club Casual, no formal nights at all, that's one of the main reason I choose it. Hubby refused to wear a tux for Alaska and I refused to wear evening clothes to go to Alaska. This means, no jeans, no sneakers for dinner, but also no tie, or jacket required. Just a collared shirt for men (meaning a polo with a collar is ok).
bobby'sgirl Posted August 25, 2005 #4 Share Posted August 25, 2005 NCL was very casual this July with optional formal night. Enjoyed very much....formal night was fun though....Alaska is a place for layers of clothing and lots of fun.
calmac Posted August 25, 2005 #5 Share Posted August 25, 2005 We were on an 11 night cruise to Alaska on the Norwegian Dream this summer. Apart from being able to wear resort casual every evening, even on "formal" nights what we really liked was being able to choose when and where we wanted to eat and not having a fixed "early" or "late" time for dinner. To us this was more important than what we were allowed to wear. The Dream will not be in Alaska in 2006 but the Star, Sun and Wind will, all on 7 night cruises. We really enjoyed our cruise to Alaska.
starskristen79 Posted August 25, 2005 #6 Share Posted August 25, 2005 What about a small ship. Cruise West or Clipper. No formal nights, but you miss out on the fancy shows and casinos in exchange for seeing Alaska up close. I loved it!! If I am going to the carribean, with nothing but water to see from the ship, I think a big boat is the way to go. Alaska, however should be seen better. Imagine how much more fun it is to see whales from 15 feet off the water, instead of 40 feet from the water. It is a bit more expensive, but I really think it is worth it.
