I would love any suggestions on hotels the night before a cruise on the Summit. We have people driving from Pittsburgh and Atlanta as well as some flying in. We don't need parking as the port parking works for us but a shuttle from the airport would we terrific. Any suggestions on where at least the driving groups can stay together, adding those flying would be wonderful. Thank you.

What is your budget? A hotel at the airport would work for your group, but what kinds of services would you require? Many hotels offer free breakfast, but have no restaurant. Some have limited public space for "hanging out". If Embassy Suites is within your budget, you might enjoy their cocktail hour and free breakfast. There are restaurants within walking distance of Embassy Suites.

All the airport hotels including Embassy Suites have a shuttle as do some of the off airport hotels. For most folks budget is a big factor. If you see another hotel that appeals, run it by us - there are properties that we don't like and many of the "cheap" hotels at the airport are just that - cheap hotels.

You don't want to stay in Linden. Also the Hampton Inn Elizabeth offers free breakfast, but has no restaurant for dinner on the property or within walking distance.

Are you willing to prepay the hotel? Aa.com has the following for May 2:

1) Elizabeth Courtyard for $148 tax included

2) Newark Courtyard for $128 tax included

3) Country Inns for $146 tax included

4) Doubletree for $114 tax included

5) Ramada Plaza for $100 tax included

These prepaid offers have a variety of add ons. Elizabeth and Newark Courtyard offer free breakfast which is not usual - I would want that in writing or print off the web site offer. Country Inns normally has free breakfast. Ramada Plaza is offering "free continental breakfast" which would likely be a muffin and coffee. No breakfast at the Doubletree.

The Courtyards, Country Inns, and the Doubletree are offering free parking. It's likely you would be charged for parking at the Ramada. Normally the Doubletree charges for parking. I would want their offer in writing as well.

Over the years I have stayed at all these properties except the Elizabeth Courtyard. All except Country Inns have one or more restaurants with "beverage" service. The Elizabeth Courtyard and Country Inns are next to a Ruby Tuesday's, an IHOP, and the Jersey Gardens which has an Appleby's and a food court.

The Ramada and Doubletree are next to each other on the north side of the airport near Exit 14. They are the closest hotels to the port, but you need clear written directions to find them. The Newark Courtyard is in the same area. The Elizabeth Courtyard and Country Inns are at Exit 13A and are easy to find.
