First time on the Magic - Questions

I've been browsing around on this site... very nice!

We are sailing out of Gaveston 3/15 on the Magic to Key West & the Bahamas.

What all is free in the all inclusive plan, or better yet, what will we have to pay for (besides alcohol)? I'm referring more about consumables and such on the ship, not excursions, pics, souvenirs, etc.

Soft drinks, tea, etc?

What hidden costs do I need to worry about?

Any help is greatly appreciated. Very excited!

if by 'all inclusive plan' you mean what is included in the base fare - juices at the buffet / mdr for breakfast, always via room service, milk, water, iced tea and lemonade, coffee, etc. are available.

you'll end up paying for soda (1.95), alcoholic drinks and coffee and snacks from the specialty coffee shop. also the steakhouse carries an additional charge, as does the italian restaurant for dinner only. the dining room has 'steakhouse selections' as an added fee entree option as well... the red frog pub serves snacks at a nominal 3.33 fee too.

food in MDR for breakfast / brunch / lunch / dinner is included, as is anything from the buffet including the special stations like pizza, deli, grill, mongolian wok, burrito bar, etc. as well as the sea day barbeque. pizza's open 24/7 as is the ice cream stations. room service also is open 24/7 but you should tip a small amount for the service.

OK. So, basically when we eat in the MDR its pretty much part of the package, but when we go to the other restaurants, cafes, pubs there is a charge?

I was looking around on the Carnival site on the Magic ship section where it shows all of the activities, decks, and such. It has a bbq place, grill, etc that shows "included" in green.

Does this mean that the food is included or that we are allowed to dine in there and pay?

I have heard some say to expect to pay a third of the total fare cost in extras. I know we will be spending extra money, but we prefer not to spend an extra 1K if possible.

I appreciate the clarification.

I never pay for extras...ships water is great, regular coffee with half n half is great, no soft drinks, no fru fru drinks, too old to drink alcohol, don't eat at the Steak House or the Italian place for dinner, don't buy bakery items or candy at the candy store. Other than tips and casino and $20 bucks for room service over the week I don't spend nada extra.

no, those areas that are shown as included typically are included.

food wise the additional charge items are 1) steakhouse selections in MDR - a few entrees from the steak house for 20.00, 2) steakhouse meals in the steakhouse 35.00pp, 3) cucina del capitano italian, 15pp for dinner only as lunch is included, 4) cake, strawberrys and snacks like that from the coffee shop - about 2.00, 5) snacks from red frog pub - like chicken wings for 3.33, 6) chef's table, gourmet special multi course meal with wine for 75.00pp, 7) candy from candy shop (varies)

other than those, all food options (on magic) are included. that might seem like a lot but compared to the free options, that's really nothing. you could go the whole cruise without ever paying for food, eat well, and never really miss those other options in my opinion - most people do.

Everyone has given an excellent list of what costs extra. Mineral water (bottled water in general) has a charge, as well. That includes bottled water in the dining room.

We never pay for extras.

It is perfectly possible to dine well on the foods & beverages which are included. It's possible to eat at any time, day or night for free! If you're still hungry, ask for seconds. In addition to the meals listed, there is a lovely Tea (tea, dainty sandwiches, canapes & desserts) served on sea days. It is also free.

You can also bring your own wine or soft drinks on board in limited amounts. And there are a number of free wine/liquor tastings, as well as free champagne at the art auctions.

When in doubt about whether there's an additional charge, just ask. They'll be glad to tell you.

We took our first trip on the Magic last Christmas -- it was wonderful! We've sailed 4 times before on 3 different ships, but the Magic is our favorite! I'm sure you'll enjoy your cruise. Bon voyage!
