AL Buckeye Posted September 5, 2005 #1 Share Posted September 5, 2005 I'm heading to Sydney and want to see lighthouses in the area. How difficult will it be to rent a car and drive?
lomo Posted September 5, 2005 #2 Share Posted September 5, 2005 I just returned from the Boston to Montreal cruise on the Maasdam and I rented a car in Sydney. I rented from Enterprise. I called them from the dock (my cellphone worked there) and they picked me up in about 10 minutes. I drove out to Baddeck (there is a small lighthouse there) and it was a very scenic drive. It was also pretty easy to navigate with directions from Enterprise. I usually rent with Hertz, but they had a per kilometer charge after 100 kilometers. I already knew I was going to Baddeck which was about 80 kilometers, so I knew I was going to be over 100. I hope that helps.
Satisfaction Posted September 14, 2005 #3 Share Posted September 14, 2005 There is a lighthouse on the North side of the bay at Louisbourg which is about a thirty minute drive from Sydney. When we were there we would also watch the fog roll in and out. Driving is very easy. Also, while in Louisbourg be sure to check out the fortress. From Loisbourg you can head north and see Main - a -Deux, a small fishing village off the beaten path then up to Glace Bay before heading back to Sydney.
