casavaha Posted September 6, 2005 #1 Share Posted September 6, 2005 I just got off the Infinity in San Francisco. Much to my surprise, the gangway getting off the ship had "Matson Lines" written on it. This gangway is almost 60 years old.
DesrtDrmr Posted September 7, 2005 #2 Share Posted September 7, 2005 In Honolulu, this past April, the terminal had a wonderful mural of the Matson Lines cruise lines............like an old cruise poster. I loved it! Isn't it great to have reminders of past cruises around?
casavaha Posted September 9, 2005 Author #3 Share Posted September 9, 2005 Matson was such a great cruise line. It really is sad that San Francisco does not do more to appreciate it. The cruise terminal is one of the worst I have ever seen. I am glad to see Honolulu at least has an appreciation of the past.
billroddy Posted November 26, 2007 #4 Share Posted November 26, 2007 I was 26 years old when I took this wonderful ship roundtrip from SF to HON. I will never forget it. When we departed the Aloha Tower, the Royal Hawaiian Band was on the dock to play Aloha Oi in a mournful slow beat. I tell you there wasn't a dry eye on the ship. Off Diamond Head we threw our leis into the water. Now I'm 85 and just had another wonderful cruise to HI on the Zaandam with my wonderful wife of 52 years, Susan. I sailed from LA (San Pedro) to Honolulu on the Matson Lurline in 1965 (it was not the original Lurline, but another ship that had been renamed.) I was only 18 and this was certainly another world!
