A thank you to everyone here and a question about room service..

We are traveling in May aboard the Getaway, balcony room. I use to cruise many times in late 80's till mid 90's, then I became a land based vacation person, never really looking back. I wanted to vacation on smaller islands and really get to know the place. Or a Vegas trip. Disney. Keys. Usually beach based.

Then came a casino offer from Harrahs. And as a couple we decided let's try it out. Of course we upgraded room but still a nice deal. I have weighed options of drink plans and udp.. And know what we tend to spend our money on.. Plus I have read so much advice from you all. Thanks! Some of the reviews are just amazing and I have a crush on Gambees love for his Mom.

It's just the two of us traveling (early 40's) so we won't be on the go the entire trip.. That brings me to the room service. I am a cranky gal without coffee! And I knew, know we are going to use room service. It's part of the relaxation..

Question: will this service charge be the tip? I would have tipped for room service hands down. I am a sucker for those who bust their ass in service industry jobs. I have no problem with the 5 dollar charge on Getaway going to the one who delivers it. But if his tip is not included, how can I punish this worker? That makes the difference to me.. If it's 5 bucks plus say a 5 dollar tip, ouch.

I definitely would not tip with that service charge on there. To me, that's more than enough.

I really can't answer your question with any certainty but you will have paid your DSC and the the service fee for delivery. With fees being collected twice I think it should be NCL's job to make sure the employee is taken care of. I would think that this should be enough but others will feel differently.

What I can tell you is that because you are in a balcony cabin you will have a coffee maker in your room so you can ask your cabin steward to keep you stocked up. If you are fussy about your coffee you could also bring your own.

Whatever you decide have a great cruise. The Getaway is a fabulous ship.

From my understanding at this time there will be no service charge for certain things. Those certain things are what was always on the room service menu for mini-suites and below. Such as coffee, tea, cereal, milk, fruit, danish. The only time you will be charged the service fee is IF you order from the 'enhanced' part of the menu which includes eggs, breakfast meats, potatoes, etc.

As a side note, there is a coffee maker in your room and your room steward will keep it stocked with coffee for you to make whenever you wish.

Enjoy your cruise.
