They are the same price purchased ahead of your cruise or onboard. Carnival's are more expensive than purchasing third party or on your own directly thru the excursion, but if you purchase thru Carnival and for some reason your excursion is late getting back to the ship, the ship will wait for you. If you purchase on your own, then you must make sure you get back before the ship leaves.

Waiting until you get on the ship to book your shore excursions (if you choose to stick with ship excursions) isn't more expensive on the ship, but there may be some sold out already. As long as you aren't set on doing one particular thing, you'll be fine.

If you don't mind my asking....how did you get the sweet OBC's? It seems that Carnival is a bit stingy when it comes to OBC's. I can't seem to find deals where you get a lot like you do on other lines.
