voyager-sue Posted April 26, 2015 #1 Share Posted April 26, 2015 We stopped in Volos for a day on our cruise (11/2014) and hired a taxi (volosviptaxi.gr) for a full day trip to Meteora. First, I have to say, Meteora is one of the most fantastic sites in the world. We ended up sharing the trip with a Scottish couple we met in CC. Our driver was Konstantinos Skalimis. He spoke excellent English. In addition he was the most courteous, thoughtful person you could ever have as a guide. It wasn't raining, so we didn't take umbrellas. But a surprise rainstorm hit and the driver had umbrellas for us. We stopped at a place that sold icons for a bio break. The place also had wine tasting and "Greek Delight" samples. BUT, they didn't sell any of it. It was just for free. The rain cleared the air and brought out all the colors of Meteora. He took us to 3 or 4 monasteries. We had as much time as we wanted, plus he pulled off at several places for photos. Of course we wanted pictures of ourselves, so he took the pictures and sent them to our phones. There was very little traffic, so he stopped on the road and showed us caves people had lived in. We could see the spiral staircase (more like a ladder) inside one cave. We ended at (I think) the Panorama Cafe for lunch (lunch not included). It did indeed have a panoramic view, though it was too cold to eat outside. Both we and the other couple were exquisitely happy. The total bill was €200, just €50 per person + tip.
moviefan2010 Posted May 3, 2015 #2 Share Posted May 3, 2015 The stairs to some of the monasteries may be difficult for some but this is one of the most incredible places in the world. A few photos are below. Sent using the Cruise Critic forums app
