cruzegirl Posted September 11, 2005 #1 Share Posted September 11, 2005 Has anyone here used NCL to book their dive excursions for dives in Maui? Just wondering how they are? We've had a few sailings now that I was hoping there are some divers on here that could report back:p ....Thanks.....
DiveCruiser Posted October 1, 2005 #2 Share Posted October 1, 2005 As a rule of thumb, I don't book thru the ship because they are usually cattle boats and more exspensive. That and you don't get a long enough bottom time. Bob
Hilary Posted October 1, 2005 #3 Share Posted October 1, 2005 When we were in Maui last year, one of the NCL ships docked at Lahaina and they used Lahaina Divers for their dive op. We dive with Lahaina Divers regularly when we're in Maui and find them to be a good operator. The do run bigger boats (up to 22 divers), but their boats are large and well laid out, so we've never felt crowded. They also only put about 6 divers with a DM, which is the same as everyone else on the island. I like the bigger boats because I tend to get motion sick, so for us it's a good trade off. Oh yeah, and when we asked what the NCL divers were paying, it was the same price as us. One thing I've heard about NCL's dive excursions is that they are often offered the first day of a 2 day stop, which means you can't do any altitude excursions at that port of call. The other thing I've heard is that the port times can be strange, which precludes you from booking a dive with anyone but NCL. I don't know your specific itinerary, so don't know if either of these applies to you or not.
