I am trying to figure out what the dining options are on the NCL ships. How does it work? Are there set times like 6:00 and 8:00? Do you eat in the same dining room each night at the same table? Are there formal nights?

Thanks in advance

There are tons of dining options on the ship. There are no set times; however, if you want to dine in a specialty restaurant, you will need a reservation. NCL tells you it's not necessary, but with all of the dining packages out there now, you do need to pre-book. Included in your fare are the MDRs and the buffet. The dining times and dining room is not set. You can go where you want. You do not have to share a table with others, either. Most cruise lines are doing this now, so it is not unique to NCL anymore. NCL does not have formal nights. They have "dress up or not" nights.

That's really interesting, my boyfriend would love that. Plus it makes it easier not having a set time or table.

Thank you very much SussasMomE

I agree with previous answers - anytime in either of the MDRs or buffet. I will add that if we found a particularly good wait staff or table (by a window etc) that we particularly liked we would ask at the desk for this table or servers area and usually we got what wanted! Also the menu is usually posted outside the restaurants after lunch so if you happen to walk by you can make a decision to eat there or the buffet or try to get a reservation in the specialist restaurants!

Are the specialty restaurants expensive?

See this: http://www.ncl.com/sites/default/files/DiningGuide_042115.pdf

If you may also purchase a the Ultimate Dining Package if you decide to eat at a specialty restaurant every night. An 18% gratuity is added when you book.

Due to the popularity of the the dining package online advance reservation is recommended. You may book online 100 days in advance if you're in a suite or 90 days if not.
