10XCRUISE Posted April 4, 2004 #1 Share Posted April 4, 2004 We have a 4pm return flight out of San Juan on May 30th and we are looking for suggestions on how to burn the couple hour wait. Went to the Intercontinental Hotel once before and we'd rather do something different. Also what do you do with your luggage in the mean time? Any thoughts? beirne Posted April 5, 2004 #2 Share Posted April 5, 2004 Take a leisurely walking tour through Old San Juan. Check your bags at either the Wyndham Hotel and Casino or the El Convento Hotel, and enjoy the best of San Juan right there. Don't miss a drink at the El Convento's open air bar and restaurant...its the happenin' place to be in that part of town.
starsjohn Posted April 5, 2004 #3 Share Posted April 5, 2004 Our favorites, -tour the forts -Ralph Lauren outlet store (better stuff than in states) -Hard Rock Cafe for pig sandwiches -Senior Frogs for bar and grill -Cathedral for spiritual inspiration (interesting cultural service)
Aquarian Posted April 5, 2004 #4 Share Posted April 5, 2004 I'll echo the suggestion for the walking tour of Old San Juan. I want to do that again some day if I ever get back there. We had a tour guide born in Atlanta, Georgia who had lived in SJ for several years. I loved his Southern/Spanish accent.
Almost Boricua Posted April 5, 2004 #5 Share Posted April 5, 2004 This is what I would do to kill a few hours. First, drop your bags at the Wyndham Old San Juan. Then, walk along the pier to the Don Q store. Look at their exhibit (about 2 minutes) and go to the counter for your free Don Q drink. After the drink, continue along the pier until you reach the information hut (yellow building). Go inside and pick up a free copy of Que Paso (a tourist's guide to San Juan). Inside the magazine is a quick (1-2 hour) walking tour of Old San Juan. If you have more time, consider taking the tour of El Morro. It is cheap (around $5) and well worth it. If you have time for lunch, eat at Manolin on San Justo street. It is nothing fancy, but it is where you can get truly local food at a good price. Beware that this is where all the locals go for lunch, so I would not suggest going between 12-1:30 as it is packed. Before going to retrive your bags at the airport, take another stop by the Don Q store, look around again, and stand in line for your free drink. Then, retrieve your bags and head to the airport. Have fun,
kb9mu Posted April 5, 2004 #6 Share Posted April 5, 2004 Almost Boricua. That's the same advice I have given a number of times (about the free drinks, I mean)! Remember, la casita has free rum drinks as well. Jus' gotta have un Don Q con china! KB9MU
