OceanPatter Posted June 3, 2015 #1 Share Posted June 3, 2015 We're planning our first Scenic cruise (Paris to Normandy Beaches) and wanted to ask: 1) if there is any real difference between the two decks ... the lower Sapphire deck vs. the upper Diamond deck, and whether mid-ship vs. aft has much meaning, and 2) how good are the round-trip flights arranged through Scenic? We've been ocean cruisers (most recently on Crystal), and this will be our first foray into river cruising. Thanks for you thoughts.
cruiseryyc Posted June 4, 2015 #2 Share Posted June 4, 2015 No real difference in cabin placement, no waves to speak of so no real motion to worry about. Will be taking my second Scenic cruise in the fall (same one you are on) but booked our own fare both times so can't respond to your flight question. You will love River cruising. NCCruzQueen Posted June 6, 2015 #3 Share Posted June 6, 2015 I'll be cruising the Rhone in August on Scenic. Looking forward to my first river cruise.
Im_not_creative Posted June 9, 2015 #4 Share Posted June 9, 2015 The upper deck gets slightly more in the way of butler service, and gets an invitation to "Table la Rive" (Might be called something different on the Seine, that is waht it is called on the Danube/Rhine itneraries). You also are likely to have slightly more extensive views from the cabin, being a bit higher above the water, but a lot of people prefer to be in the lounge or sundeck anyhow, so as to see both banks. We were in the centre of the ship - less distance to walk to teh lounge or dining room, or teh exist than you would from teh rear, but more than from one of the forward cabins. It is posisble there might be more engine noise from further back, but I never relly heard the engines from anywhere. There won't be any difference in motion, as tere are virtually no waves - movement overall is VERY smooth, though you can feel a little vibration when lying down. We only flew from teh UK, and those flights were good (with British Airways), but we can't say anything about long distance flights tehy organise.
