Time for Rum Point? Ferries?

We are in Grand Cayman from 7am to 5PM.

Is there time to bother with Rum Point if Stingray City/Turtle Farm ids not our thing?

Also, we saw a map with a ferry that takes 40 minutes which runs from near the docking area straight to Rum Point.

There's also another that runs south of that one and takes 15 minutes.

Any info on either?

COuld yopu take a taxi to the 15 minute one then anohther taxi to Rum Point and cut off any time?

The ferries are not running still (from Hurricane Ivan last year), there is no date when they are expected back up.

 

You have plenty of time to head out to Rum Point, actually your ship seems to have one of the longest stops on GC that I've seen.

 

So, the only way to get to Rum Point right now is to drive, you can either rent a car (please read my thread called "Rum Point-don't miss it" if you haven't already) or someone posted that there is a new excursion with 4x4 jeeps (which I still think you drive yourself, but with a guide and a group).

Either way, it will be a very enjoyable day and I encourage you to visit this true paradise!

Just curious. How long on the tour do you get to spend at Rum Point beach?

We are going in November on the Mariner and will be on the island (hopefully) from 8 am to 4 pm. Last cruise we were on we missed stopping at Grand Cayman.

Jeep excursion does sound good, but just wanted to let you know that the jeep rental, directly from Cico Avis, was only about $75 including gas. It is not hard to find your way to Rum Point at all, basically 2 roads. The excursion is a guided tour, but if you are comfortable, you might want to consider doing this on your own and saving quite a bit of money. More you can spend at Rum Point on drinks and water toys!

We paid $39 at Cico Avis for a nice Honda Civic (auto with ac) and went to Rum Point. With having to wait for a shuttle to the airport (almost an hour) and the drive there and back and return of car and shuttle to port, we only had 2-3 hours max at Rum Point, but it was very relaxing and very pretty there - Hyatt seems to own the entire operation.

Wow, sorry to hear about your experience. We had a completely different experience with Cico, less than a 10 min wait for the shuttle. I've also referred a lot of people from CC to Cico (my thread Rum Point-don't miss it has generated a lot of emails) and I think all who have posted back or emailed me back indicated they experienced the same. They must have had something going on with the shuttle that day. It is a 45 min drive from the airport to Rum Point, but it is rather scenic as well. I'd say we had a good 4 hours there.

 

I hope you won't let that from trying it again.
