The summer solstice is happening this Sunday, June 21 which means there will be 17 hours of daylight

 

 

The longest day of the year is finally here!

 

June 21 marks the summer solstice, which is, technically, when the Sun reaches its highest point in its path as seen from the Earth and the tilt of the Earth's axis is most inclined towards the sun.

 

Which means we get the most daylight of any day the year (hooray!)

 

It's generally understood to mark the middle of summer, although looking out the window, we could be forgiven for thinking that hasn't even started yet
