Cozumel Snorkeling Recommendations

The wife and I are beginner snorkelers and would like to read what others specifically recommend in terms of snorkeling excursions in Cozumel. We'll be visiting there in January, 2016 on Freedom of the Seas. We're open to considering either a RC or independent excursion. We have our own equipment.

We did an RC excursion over 10 yers ago so I can't offer you an recent expereince, but wanted to direct you to the Cozumel forum as you shoudl be able to find quite a bit of infomation on there.

I don't know if RCI offers an official excursion, but I've snorkeled at Chankanaab National Park before and it was nice. It's only a few minutes by cab from the Cruise ship piers, so it's worth looking into.

My girlfriend and I went diving in Cozumel in March and it was absolutely beautiful. The water is very clear so I would imagine you would end up seeing an abundance of sea life snorkeling as well.

 

It appears that right now Royal Caribbean is offering a 3 Reef Snorkeling Excursion for $49.75. In doing a quick search, the cheapest excursion I found booking independently for a 3 reef snorkel was $36.

Now, keep in mind that a RC excursion should include transportation to where you need to meet your snorkel boat, guarantees you won't miss the boat (if that's a concern with your port times), and this particular one offers two complimentary drinks.... I would highly doubt you would be able to secure round trip transportation for less than $10 doing it on your own.

In this circumstance, I would probably just book directly through RC as it seems a good value and you could even use OBC if you had any!

 

Either way, Cozumel is definitely a good port to go snorkeling!

 

Edit: Although I forgot you mentioned you had your own equipment, so if you were bringing that anyways a cab right to Chankanaab National Park would definitely cost less than an excursion and you could leave whenever you wanted!
