Free way to contact while on board?

Our last two cruises were on Carnival and one nice feature we had was free access to the Carnival site on board. They had forums on their website and you could start a thread before you left that anyone back home could communicate with you on. We left the kiddos home both times, so it was nice to check in and see how they were doing every night. Obviously it wasn't private so no personal details were shared, but it was still something!

Does Norwegian have anything similar? I didn't notice any forums on their web page so I doubted it, but was just curious if any websites at all were free access on board. If not, does anyone know if phone plans typically cover US territories? We are leaving the younger two home again and would love to at least check in once if we are in St. Thomas.
