Inaugural Sailing Caribbean Princess - Any questions?

I have a question regarding the Caribbean Princess pools - one of the pools on the Golden Princess had the retractable roof in case of bad weather. Does the Caribbean Princess have this also??

Thanks,

because of the movie screen they weren't able to have a roof which lends the question...If the grand Class ships have roofs how are they going to install movie screens???

I'm waiting to hear from SpongeRob who i think was on the 4/3/04 sailing. Haven't seen a post from him for awhile now. Maybe he's on this week's sailing. Anyway he promised some pictures when he returns.

Hi All,

Was also on the inaugural sailing last week - boo hoo - hate being back to 51F and raining.

Just thought I would weigh in on the Caribe Cafe. We ate there the 2 formal nights (decided to simplify the packing). We thought it was delightful. They seat you and bring drinks (in our case, uncorked our wine) then you serve yourself at the buffet. There was grilled lobster both nights we were there - also, lots of different fish dishes, carved meat (one of the nights was Beef Wellington), tons of mussels and clams, shrimp cocktail, different salads, paella, strawberry tarts, dulce de leche tarts, and lots of other things that I can't remember just now.

We had a great time and wouldn't hesitate to take this ship again. The extra 500 pax were pretty much a non-issue as far as I could tell.

Back to reality - Mare

The more information the better....keep it coming folks.

yensid1071 - we are also on the Aloha deck A401. Did you have a balcony? if so, what was it like?

I heard the ship has tennis courts. Is there a fee to play??
Thanks,

Dan

Hi Gang, Yes there is one paddle tennis court and it looked to be free of charge. It is where the basketball court was/is on the Grand and Golden.

SpongeRob was on the inaugural sailing and is now on the Golden, is that right yensid? Grand or Golden this week. It is such a sad life he leads. Back to back...I want to be just like him!

I am glad to hear the food was good in the Cafe too. We never made it there to eat just to pass through.

Take care everyone! Becky

Yes, Rob is on the Golden this week (lucky guy!!). We should all strive to be like Rob and live that horrible, sad life of back to back cruises!

Rusty, we had a balcony and loved it! They're a bit bigger than on the Sun Class ships and have plexiglass below the rail allowing you to see out, unobstructed, while sitting down. No pesky rails get in the way of your view. They're about 4 feet deep and have 2 chairs with a round table. Plenty of room to move around out there, plus we left the door open to hear the ocean each night.

Were any of you 4/3 cruisers in the aft Mini-suites on the Emerald deck?
If so did you hear any bleed through noise from the Club Fusion below? Or did you hear any comments from cruisers in those cabins about hearing anything of the Club below?

Hi, all! I just caught up with today's posts. . .DH and I are in the Twin Cities for a conference of his so I'll be checking out the shopping action at Mall of America. We had beverages tonight at the hotel lounge and it was called "Ports of Call."
I so did not need to be reminded that we are once again landlocked. And somebody in the bar asked for Red Stripe beer!

Jay, will inform you of upcoming research missions so you can offer input! I 'll send you a photo of the tiara, there are quite a few photos of me in one or the other of them. I was going to say I didn't get to see Mickey but you brought him to the party so that won't work. (Imagine smiley here. . .I can't include them from the laptop). So it looks like so far the research team includes me,(sparkle) and Mr. Sparkle or"j", opokie and becky and yensid and mom ann. I think we need to get right on this becaused it will no doubt take extensive research.

Oceanlover, there was sushi one late afternoon in Horizon Court. I don't do raw fish but had the veggie ones and the crab and veggie ones and they were very good. It looked like a good variety for the raw fish ones, too.

SpongeRob is on the Golden (St. Thomas today). He said he was going to try and get into the roll call area and check in with everybody but he and Margarett must be having such a wonderful time that they haven't gotten around to it.

Just an fyi to those who are interested, I have not heard a word from Carolyn Barrett in response to my report of a seriously defective tour with her organization. I don't think any of the six of us who were on that tour would recommend her.
Don't want to go too far into the negatives because overall the inaugural sailing was superb and Princess did not disappoint. This was just an independent tour "malfunction."

DJenkins, you are welcome. Keep asking if there is anything that those of us Inaugural sailing veterans haven't answered!

Jay, I haven't looked at the cams but maybe there is a security issue or something with Jamaica? Very interesting, though.

Sparkle,

Thank you for that response to the sushi question. I hope they have it more than one day though.

Read that you had a penthouse suite. We aresailing on the 24th and have one too. Is the balcony covered? What are the furnishings on it? How is the cabin. We are anxious to hear from you.

We were in R401. The balcony was covered but, depending on the angle of the sun, there were plenty of sunshine hours out there. I loved it. It is huge, maybe 5x20 or so, with two teak chaises (with comfy cushions), a teak dining table and chairs, and a small chaise-side table. The cabin was gorgeous, especially the bathroom. It is divided into two sections. . .one has a jacuzzi tub and a real shower that is totally glass, the other section has the commode and a big marble vanity with sink and plenty of storage space. A door between the two sections closes. There was so much storage space we literally didn't use several cabinets/cupboards. There is a nice sofa, chair, two end tables, a desk, a vanity, two bedside tables, the decor was subdued (sage and cream) and restful. There is a wet bar, a refrigerator, two televisions, two telephones, plenty of lighting. If you close the heavy drape between the l.r. and the bedroom in the middle of the day to take a nap you will absolutely think it is middle of the night. Unless the room steward knocks and brings you your 4 p.m. tea, your 5 p.m. appetizers, your laundry, or your in room dining.

Ah, bliss!

I think we are hooked on suites from now on.

I should also say that R401 is on the starboard side so we got to see so much. . .the tender action in Princess Cays (with the crazy seas that day. . .whooaaa, what a ride!), the coast of Cuba for many miles (loved that, how often do you get to see that?), coming into Jamaica, coming into Grand Cayman, the only thing we missed was Cozumel but we saw it going out instead of coming in.
A great location for the western itinerary but I think the port side might be better for the eastern one.
