clementyne Posted September 23, 2005 #1 Share Posted September 23, 2005 I just hit with Priceline for $100 for the San Juan Marriott Resort & Stellaris Casino for 2/25/06. Has anyone stayed there? I'm trying to figure out where it is on a map and can't seem to be able to pin it down. We stayed at ESJ Towers last year and I'm wondering if it's along the same beach? Any information would be greatly appreciated! Clem
TrentS Posted September 23, 2005 #2 Share Posted September 23, 2005 No, El San Juan is in Isla Verde. The Marriott is the old DuPont Plaza, it's a few miles west of ESJ in Condado. Try this link for a map with it pinpointed... http://maps.google.com/maps?q=San+Juan+Mariott+Hotel,+1309+Ashford+Avenue,+San+Juan,+PR,+PR+00907&ll=18.456389,-66.071111&spn=0.057541,0.083007&num=1&start=0&hl=en
clementyne Posted September 23, 2005 Author #3 Share Posted September 23, 2005 Thanks TrentS. Do you happen to know if it's a good place to stay? Is it closer to the Pier than the ESJ Towers were? We would really love to just stroll along a beach for a few hours before we catch the cruise ship. Clem
TrentS Posted September 23, 2005 #4 Share Posted September 23, 2005 Yes, it's a very nice place, much closer to the pier than ESJ. It was completely gutted and rebuilt when Marriott took over what was left of the DuPont Plaza.
Bequia Posted September 23, 2005 #5 Share Posted September 23, 2005 Sad history as the Dupont PLaza, San Juan, Puerto Rico: Dupont Plaza Hotel In San Juan, Puerto Rico, the Dupont Plaza Hotel, once located in Condado where the Marriott currently stands, experienced a devastating fire on December 31, 1986. The fire, set by three employees, originated on corrugated cardboard cartons of furniture, containing mainly dressers composed of particleboard and wood, located in the south ballroom. The fire rapidly broke out of this space and swept through the lobby and casino areas. As a result of this fire, 97 people died in less than 12 minutes. porky113 Posted September 25, 2005 #6 Share Posted September 25, 2005 I remember seeing a training video on that fire years ago. They had people jumping from windows. Still it sounds like a good Hotel now and an excellent price. Ed
