sky0000547 Posted August 23, 2015 #1 Share Posted August 23, 2015 I have just got off the Explorer of the Seas earlier today after a 14 nights Spain & Mediterranean Cruise. Instead of the normal review, what I will attempt to do is to provide the necessary information in the form of photos. Before my cruise, there were many questions asked about the Explorer of the Seas and this included myself. I will try and post a lot of photos including all cruise compasses, bar menus with prices, most MDR menus (sorry missed the first few days) and photos of most public areas. The ship will be heading to Australia after the European season so hopefully this is also be useful to our Australian cruisers.

Note the Coca-Cola logo is embossed onto the card but the drinks package is a sticker. Day 1 Cruise Compass

h & m Posted August 24, 2015 #9 Share Posted August 24, 2015 Thanks so much for posting this information. It's so helpful, we are going back to Royal after quite a few years, and never been on this class of ships, and love the easy to read compasses. reedy8 Posted August 24, 2015 #10 Share Posted August 24, 2015 Thank you, I've been looking for a recent cruise compass for explorer and the other info is very helpful too.
bigdavefc Posted August 24, 2015 #11 Share Posted August 24, 2015 Thank you for posting pics of the compass. We sail on explorer in 99 days and we are so excited. We would love to see any other pics that you may have...cheers, Dave
sky0000547 Posted August 24, 2015 Author #12 Share Posted August 24, 2015 (edited) Thanks for the replies. It will take some time to put everything up and I'm trying to have a structure rather than just random photos all over the place. I will scan the remaining compasses tonight and put them up. Then probably drinks and food menus follow by photos of public areas on each deck. I will aim to put everything up by this week. I'd be slumped on my sofa in a post cruise depression by now! Thank you for all of this though. As you can see by my signature I'm on Explorer soon, so this is all just adding to my excitement! (Currently I have already highlighted a few must-do's on the Compasses you've posted!) I hope you had a great trip. I look forward to hearing your thoughts and impressions. the griswolds Posted August 24, 2015 #15 Share Posted August 24, 2015 WooHoo, Captain Rick, please be still there, when we get there.:) Thanks for your review.:D LOL Captain Rick was so funny, On our last sea day on this cruise he got his co-ordinates mixed and said over the tannoy that he hadn't got a clue where we were. Then his mobile phone went off and he answered it whilst still on the loud speaker. He then said "sorry about that, that was the cheif engineer and the good news is,, all 4 engines are still working." class

I hope you had a great trip. I look forward to hearing your thoughts and impressions. This is the only way to keep my cruise memory alive by looking back at the cruise compasses and photos. I had a great enjoyable trip but this ship certainly didn't come anywhere close to the top of all my RCI cruises. However the ship has great staff and the guys and girl in the Cafe Promenade were brilliant.
sky0000547 Posted August 24, 2015 Author #17 Share Posted August 24, 2015 WooHoo, Captain Rick, please be still there, when we get there.:) He is the funniest captain I have ever had. He sure knows how to enjoy himself on the ship. One night it was Giovanni's Table, another was Chop's and then another at Izumi. He even took himself down to the casino and tried out being a croupier on the roulette.
Marianna49 Posted August 24, 2015 #18 Share Posted August 24, 2015 (edited) :) Thank you for the information. It will be interesting to compare. We are leaving in less than a month on Explorer. Edited August 24, 2015 by Marianna49

Aviv, Joe and Shriv' are just fantastic. I'd like to know how you found Tim as a CD? We had him on Indy last year as entertainment manager, lovely guy. Will also be interested in your overall impression of explorer now you've sailed? August in the med was it as crazy hot as we had in July? 40c in Monaco! Looking forward to the photos six weeks post cruise ours seems like a lifetime ago x

August in the med was it as crazy hot as we had in July? 40c in Monaco! Looking forward to the photos six weeks post cruise ours seems like a lifetime ago x Aviv, Joseph, Andrea, Louie and Nathaniel were brilliant in the Cafe Promenade. After the first visit, they soon remembered my name and soon after my favourite Starbucks drink. I thought Tim was pretty good and friendly as a CD. He is a natural presenter, he is so smooth. I'm quite happy with him and one of the better CD for me. I found the ship to be poor. There are fixtures and fittings broken or fallen off. I wouldn't have guessed this ship had a major dry dock in May. The food in the Windjammer was very salty a lot of the times and lacks variety. To me, RCI tries to cater for the UK cruisers that it lost its identity as an American cruise line. Most of the headliners acts were very poor. The RC singers again poor compared to other ships. The sound in the theatre doesn't appear to sound correctly setup either. Love the live bands though. It was nowhere near as crazy as the temperature in July. The hottest day was the first port in Malaga with high 30s. Most other ports including Rome were more very high 20s. I was expecting to be scorchers but it wasn't. UKUSA1 Posted August 24, 2015 #21 Share Posted August 24, 2015 I was on this cruise as well. Funny, I didn't notice broken or falling fixtures at all. Our room was in perfect condition and I found all the areas clean and in good repair. Entertainment- liked the comedy and hypnotist. The singers were poor. We seldom ate in Wind Jammer. I think it was only a total of 5 times for the whole cruise. We did like Spphire dining and loved the service we got! Jeffery and Fredrick were amazing. William the drinks server really good. We were never without a drink. Loved the two women bartenders in Crown and Kettle! They were so friendly and humoured my 9 year old. Yuloya is one and I think Claudia was the other. Brilliant! My son created a drink... Soda with a variety of fruit he called the Packman's Dream. He would order it by name. We had the drinks package and we always got served very quickly.
