switching cabins/adding a guest

Three friends and I are booked on the Breakaway in October. As of now we are all in one minisuit (yeah Its a little tight but we have done 5 in an inside so I think we can handle it). We have another friend who would like to join us the problem is she cant afford a solo cabin fair and cant seem to find anyone else to join her. My idea is I will move to a studio (something I have been interested in anyways) and she can have my spot in the other cabin. Is this something that's possible?

As long as one of primary passengers stays the same, changing names on the existing reservation should be no problem at all.

 

We recently booked a cruise with my wife and her sister-in-law in one cabin, myself and wife's brother in another. Did this for reasons of casino comps.

 

We were told no problem switching the rooms around. Had to check in at the port the way it was booked. Wife's brother and I put down our credit cards on the cabin #'s we would eventually occupy. Then went to guest services on the ship and explained, and they cut new cabin cards for the people who were switching around. They said it goes on all the time.

 

However, the ship's hotel computer systems never caught up. We kept getting info and flyers addressed to the wrong people in the same cabin, but that really didn't matter, and the bills were correct at the end of the cruise.

Call your cruise consultant and they will help you out...that's their job, after all. You should be able to make changes in your room assignments and cabin preferences until a couple of weeks before sailing, availability dependent, of course.

 

Someone has to fork over the cash for the solo cabin, and it will probably be you, since you're planning to stay in the studio anyway. Then it is just a matter of making it right for your friend who doesn't want to go solo...adding her to the room you're switching out of and such. But I wouldn't do this online. I would absolutely call the cruise line and set it all up.

That is a completely different situation - you just got extra room keys for people sleeping in different cabins than booked because you couldn't actually switch people around on reservations because of rules for CAS comps.

 

What OP asked and did was to actually change the reservation and remove themselves from one cabin and book another - the ship's computer has no need to "catch up" because nobody sleeps in a "wrong" cabin to begin with.

 

Also onboard accounts are always personal unless specifically set up otherwise, so billing always goes right if it has been set up correctly during check-in - no matter which cabin the passenger actually sleeps in.
