Acapulco shotover jet

Yes we have done the shot-over jet ride.....and it was a blast. We did a land vacation a few years ago in Acapulco, and decided to do the ride. We were a bit (?) OK a lot hung -over on the van ride up there, so it was actually more stomach churning to get there, rather than the boat ride itself!. Imagine about 20 persons per jet-boat......all wearing life jackets holding on for dear life. The jet boats come quite close to the rock formations at times which adds to the thrill. Our favorite part was the "360" turns in the middle of the river. Get prepared to get wet, with some pretty muddy water though. Do not wear white clothing for this reason! It's not a crystal clear river, but nevertheless we would do it again in a heartbeat. As I recall, the van left the city around 8am, and we didn't get back till mid-late afternoon. DO IT! You can bring an underwater camera with you, but you have no way to take a picture while riding as you're holding on with both hands. They will take boat pictures for you that you can purchase afterwards. Of course!

We loved the boat ride as well. The river has a strong sulpher smell to it, but wasn't too bad the day we visited. They do take lots of action photos of each boat and are available on a CD for sale at the end of the ride.

I have a few photos from the CD on my webshots page, under the NCL STAR album if you want to take a look.

We did the Ocean Riders boat ride in Acapulco. It is about a block from the pier. Walk through the gauntlet of taxi drivers and vendors and you're there! Lotsa fun- wear the goggles they provide but you will have to shut your eyes when going really fast. You will get soaked so bring a towel or a change of clothes. Don't bother with a camera- you are going too fast to get a decent picture.

If you don't read Spanish, just click on the camera at the bottom of the home page- the pictures are worth a thousand words!! :D
