LOW CARB

No, Crystal just annouced they are coming out with one and I think Princess but so far as I know X is holding out! I have managed to lose 73 pounds in the last year and I really wish there were some low carb appetizers and desserts so I could do better on my cruises! The entrees are no problems and I could pass up the bread, but you just can't give up everything!

I'm with you. I've lost 45 lbs (low carb dieting) since my last cruise in 5/03. I really enjoy the food on Celebrity. We leave in 2 weeks, and I'm just going to leave off all bread ( have no craving for it) and go easy on the desserts. Hopefully I won't gain but just a few lbs.

I do always find that the cruise weight comes off very easily as soon as I get home and get back to low carbing. It seems if it goes on fast it also comes off fast!

Congrats ya'll on the weight loss! No carb menus on my recent Century cruise. Their selection of sugar free desserts is awful! Just go and enjoy the food without worrying and get back on your diet when you come back home. It's your vacation after all! icon_biggrin.gif

We were on the Galaxy end of March and beginning of April. On the galley tour we were told that the Celebrity Menus were about to be updated with more low fat and also low carb choices.

Tuggers...I have lost 92 lbs in 18 months. I found the weight I put on during my last cruise (10 lbs) took almost 3 months to get off!! Once I got throught the 80lbs barrier I find the weight tougher to lose...However I refuse to stop cruising and I will eat what I want for that week. I am prepared to work as hard as required to lose the weight AFTER I return.

Danno It's funny you should say that because this is really the first plauteau I've hit and it's at 73 pounds. I've taken 4 cruises since October and have gained with each one but have come home gotten right back on modified induction and in 2 weeks have lost the cruise weight. Now I've been doing 25 carbs a day for 2 weeks and the scale does not even move! Very depressing, but I'm not giving up! I want to lose another 25 or 30 before the Nov 7th Zenith. Hope I can do it!

We recently participated in a Celebrity online questionnaire where they stated that they are considering offering South Beach diet menus on their ships. There was an entire page of questions on low carb-ing. I'm really hopeful that there will be some low carb desserts as well. They are my downfall, especially on a cruise!

Congratulations on all your successes. I've lost 35 pounds, but seem to have hit a plateau here for the last couple of months. Maybe if I'd get my big butt up off the couch....!

I just returned from the 14 day Galaxy transatlantic and managed to lose 2 pounds on tghe cruise. I am a South Beach dieter. They actually made the south beach pancakes for me and my dh every morning. THat and sugerfree syrup was a great breakfast. We had no bread, no rice, no potatoes, no pasta. We had the waiter bring us a plate of raw veggies to munch on while looking at the menu, while our table mates were eating bread. We ate really well but did not gain.

missm,

Let's not go too far overboard now. Some how I think you are working up to the big e word, Exercise! Please, I have way too many health problems for that. If God had wanted me to exercise he would have made spandex in sizes over 12! I'm right there on the platean with you. Trying to stay on 25 carbs a day until 6/5 and Century. The scale just doesn't want to budge. Hang in there!

Gail,

So how many carbs does a martini have? icon_biggrin.gif I've been dieting forever now (Weight Watchers) and have finally reached my goal, so I'm right with you there. I, too, plan to just enjoy myself on our June 5 cruise. I'm looking forward to meeting you, and congratulations on your success so far! icon_biggrin.gif

Martinis don't have carbs unless they have other liquors in them. After a couple you won't care icon_smile.gif

Martinis have carbs..LOTS of them..especially if you drink the yummy ones, like the creamy Chocolate, Peach, French, etc! But it's still worth the carb overload! icon_biggrin.gif

Princess, do you think those pastries at the Cova have any carbs? I'm thinking the almond ones almost seem like health food specially compared to the chocolate ones don't you think? I mean they're nuts and those are low carb?

Tuggers...

LOL!!! Just do what my (skinny) psychic-type brother's girlfriend does....take your index finger.....point it at the pastry, and rotate your finger in a counterclock-wise pattern, then (in the air) pull the calories away and toss aside. BE CAREFUL....do not go clockwise or else you will be adding calories! She swears by it! icon_biggrin.gif

Been on low carb/low calorie for a year now - 70 lbs off and in my experience, any menu can be low carb.

We eat out all the time and we just ask to have steamed vegetables in place of the starch and we avoid meat that is coated, barbequed sauced, covered in gravy. There are so many things you can eat broiled or baked.

And be careful of nibbling. Don't eat one chip here, one fry there - a dessert one day - a potato the next. The unusual thing about a low carb diet is the "all or nothing" aspect of it. When you load up on carbs one day, it takes three days for your body to get back into carb burning mode.

However, on our last cruise, I kinda went a little nuts - after being on the diet for 10 months, the bread was too good to resist. Some days, I had hardly any supper - mostly bread and butter.

That wasn't particularly good to do - go from strict carb counting to eating what you want - without phasing it in. I gained five pounds (the only cruise I've ever gained weight on) - but that and five more pounds came off in less than a month after returning home because I went back to serious carb counting.

smudgesmom,

You seem to know way more than I do about this low carb stuff. I've been on it since last May. I wanted to do the gastric bypass and my dr said he would go to bat for me with the ins co to get it if I would try this first. I've been doing so good on this that now I really don't want the surgery. In the last year I have taken 'time off' for 3 cruises, gained 10# on a 7 night 11# on a 10 night and 14# on an 11 night. Took Nov and Dec off for the holidays (didn't go 'whole hog' just tried to maintain instead of losing for that period). Got back from the 11 night 4/23, went back on induction for a week, lost the 14#, have lost only 1# since. And no, I don't phase it in. I eat a low carb breakfast, get on the ship eat a low carb lunch and at dinner have bread and dessert. I don't do starch except bread, no potatoes, rice, etc. But I have an appitizer, soup (I love the cold fruit ones), entree and dessert sometimes followed by cheese. And I'm going to have a Martini before dinner, wine with dinner and some nights a Chocolate Creme Martini after dinner. After writing down every thing I have I know that's there is no hope for me! I'm doomed! I just can't turn down all the good stuff, The only thing I have going for me is that I have been able to get back on the low carb when I get back home.

What are the South Beach Pancakes? Did you have a recipe or did the chef? Did you do this at the buffet or dining room? I would be very interested in this for my 6/5 cruise if you could tell me how to go about it. Thanks.
